A Lifestyle of Worship

by Michelle on Apr.10, 2009, under Uncategorized

What is worshiping God to you? Is it singing and making music? An act of reverance? A set time on Sundays to sing in a corporate group of believers? Undoubtedly all these things are associated with “worship”. However, we must ask ourselves, “Is this how we should worship God? Is this what He wants? Us going to our weekly church service, sing, listen to the sermon, and get on with our lives until next service?

In Mark 12:30 Jesus tells us that the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind. In shorter terms, Jesus is saying that we need to love God with our ENTIRE being!

So let’s take a side note for a moment. Let’s just say that you are in a relationship with the most amazing person, your other half. Let’s say that this person is the ideal partner, he or she always is making sure you are fine, he or she is so committed to you and constantly constantly says “I love you!” with such honesty and meaning. Now let’s look at the other half. We see that you have this amazing partner and yet, you don’t do all those things. You don’t always check up on him or her, you aren’t always available to him or her, but yet you really truly love this person. It’s just that you don’t express it so explicitly. Imagine how the other person would feel. Yeah, he or she knows you love him or her, but it would be nice to actually see you express that love to him or her explicitly, expressing your inward feelings outwardly.. So now let’s take this example and associate it with our relationship with God. God is the one constantly constantly saying “I love you unconditionally!”, He’s the one so committed to you, He wants you to have the best life ever under His perfect, marvelous plan for you. Now imagine you, us, as the person who does not express that love to Him. I can just imagine the heart of God just saddened; He longs to hear us say “God, I love you!” with sincerity and meaning, and not only that, but also express our love to Him, showing that what we do holds true to what we say.

So how do we express our love to Him? How do we show God that we love Him with our ENTIRE being? This is where worship comes into play. Worship is the ultimate way of telling/showing God that you love Him. Worship is expressing a deep reverance, a profound love, to God, the Creator of the universe, the King of kings, the Lover of your soul. Worship is not and should not be limited to just music or religious practices. Worship is expressing your commitment to God, that day to day you are living a life devoted to Him, obeying Him and acknowledging that He is the Lord of lords, Lord of your life. With this we establish a LIFESTYLE OF WORSHIP, a lifestyle completely centered on God, expressing our love to Him with our thoughts, our motives, our jobs, our actions [Mark 12:30]. Worshiping God, ultimately our relationship with Him, should not be limited to Sundays or whenever you have a church service. Your relationship with God and worship has got to be so involucrated in your personal life that your life is all about your relationship with God and worship. This is the reason why true followers of Christ do not limit Christianity to the label of “religion”. Christianity is not about a religious practice; it’s about the loving relationship between you and God.

For me, I believe that I can offer my best worship [expression of love] to God through what I know to do best, and that is music. I worship God with my ENTIRE being, yet to offer Him the best of the best is through my music.. What is the best thing you know to do that can be an offering of worship to the God who loves you unconditionally?

So as a conclusion, I challenge you to establish a lifestyle of worship, that as you live from day to day you will worship and honor God with your thoughts, your jobs, your motives, and your actions. I challenge you to pray this simple prayer that David from the Bible prayed to God: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord my Rock and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:14).

May God bless you immensely and if you have any feedback or questions, feel free to leave a comment and I will certainly get back to you as soon as possible. Until next time… =)
